Hindu Mythology Hinduism

Does the number ’18′ (eighteen) have any special significance in Hindu mythology/Hinduism?

I was wondering if the number ’18′ has any significant value attached to it, connected to Hindu mythology/Hinduism. This is what I have observed:

1. The Bhagavad Gita consists of 18 chapters.
2. The Mahabharata (the world’s largest epic and the world’s longest poem) consists of 18 ‘parvas’ (books)
3. The Kurukshetra war lasted for 18 days.

Is this all just a mere coincidence or is any special value attached to the number ’18′?
Thanks.

P.S. Not connected to Hindu mythology/Hinduism, but the recent Egyptian protests also lasted for 18 days, before President Mubarak finally stepped down.

18 adds up to 9..which is considered an auspicious number in hindu mythology..
9 grahas
18 ..all you mentioned above
27 stars
108 names of dieties or ashtottara sata namas
1008 – thousand names or sahasra namas
and so on.
